We need only to look at popular film, including HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey, to see the limits of a machine in a decision-making capacity.
In this recent NYTimes article, journalist McKenzie Funk reinforces the point that none of us wants arbitrary law enforcement. He rightly asks the reader to think about data in the context of privacy and security. I want to emphasize the limits of machines - I hope we never treat them as “foolproof and incapable of error.” It usually does not go well for humans. Humans must retain the decision-making role.
